Ahetel9′s Blog

{April 17, 2009}

Today my post will talk about my students who have basically shut down and are not completing much work. The spring fever bug has already caught on and they cannot focus and do thier best to finish the year off on a strong note. I guess this is pretty much normal and should be expected but none the less is still frustrating for teachers. I am hoping that the spring break will help refresh them and they will return with some much needed energy to get them through till graduation. In the meanwhile I will also get some much needed rest and recharge to keep me going!!

I agree, people who are not in education get annoyed because they think we have so much time off, but they don’t realize that both the students and teachers need this time to relax. Have a nice break!!!

Angela,
How funny I just pretty much wrote the same thing in my blog and this is after the students returned from break.I’m trying to think of what I can do to get them back on track before I lose it. I’ll let you know if I fiugure it out.

Amanda Morehouse says:

I agree with this so much. When the weather gets nice I dont want to be inside either. Thats why yesterday I think I could have worked all day since it was shitty out! I don’t think that I could take classes over the summer because i know my focus level is completely gone with its nice out and i could be outside doing something. Maybe they should invent classes outside in the summer. I think kids would really like that and might stay a little bit more focused then they do inside.

Maybe school should stop having so many long break and start having really short breaks during the school year so that we could get the students out sooner when the weather gets nice.

Stephen Ransom says:

I am the same way, yet we as teachers forget that most professions don’t have summers off and still need to remain productive. Year-round schooling has become more and more popular and solves some of these issues… more frequent breaks for shorter periods of time seems to be a good thing for everyone. Students forget less (over long summers) and everyone gets time off more often to recharge. Students also have the opportunity to get help during the intercession times (breaks) rather than get more and more behind as the year progresses.

Anyway, onward ;-)
